Another thing students could do to get a little
more involved is to subscribe to a newspaper or news magazine. These
periodicals such as the New York Times, Time magazine, and Foreign Policy
magazine have been well established for years in delivering truthful and
well-written news. Though this does cost money, it is a small fee and it
requires no effort because it will then be delivered right to the front door or
mailbox. It also requires a little more effort to get news this way because it
requires reading instead of just passively watching. However, these articles
give more information and go more in-depth than most news stories, just because
TV news tries to capture optimum audience attention with short, eye-catching
stories. Similar to the TV news, the newspaper and magazines can be read while
doing other things such as with breakfast in the morning or while having a cup
of coffee. Many people find reading the news a relaxing part of their everyday
life while at the same time becoming more informed about the world around them.
